Fairfax is a city of strip-mall contradictions, where you can watch a shabu-shabu master slice marbled Wagyu and, thirty minutes later, hurl crab legs at a tablecloth like a deposed king. I have eaten until my chair gave up, been brined by low-tide fingers that lasted two days, and asked a server named Ken for a double only to get a High Kiss Bliss that tasted like a lemon-cloud concerto.

The range here is a real thing, from the solemn hot pot at California Shabu Shabu to the aggressive Cajun seasoning at Crab O’Clock. Proof: I once saw an owner take notes for five full minutes.

Read the list, pick your poison, and remember to ask Raymond for his drink. Your napkin will never forgive you.

All-you-can-eat crab feast
Stellar, prompt table service
Family-run, welcoming atmosphere
Jumbo shrimp and oyster add-ons
Long-standing Fairfax favorite

I walked into Captain Pell's with the grim determination of a man who has seen too many butter stations fail. The all-you-can-eat crab feast is not a suggestion; it is a contract, and they honor it. Service was so prompt I suspected they had a spy in my napkin. The family-run warmth hits you like a wet rag, but in a good way. Jumbo shrimp and oysters arrive as add-ons, but the crab is the star, demanding cracked knuckles and zero conversation. A long-standing favorite for a reason. I left sticky, satisfied, and slightly terrified of my own appetite. It's a classic, and classics endure for a reason.

All-you-can-eat fresh oysters
Generous snow crab portions
Perfectly seasoned, huge rounds
Lenient two-hour time limit

Crazy Crab operates on a simple premise: you will eat oysters until your eyes water, and then you'll eat more. The all-you-can-eat first course is a slurping marathon, and the snow crab portions arrive with the generosity of a drunk uncle. The rounds are huge, seasoned with a heavy hand that respects no palate's hesitation. The two-hour limit feels lenient because you will hit a wall of briny fluid long before then. I sat, I shucked, I cracked. My fingers smelled like low tide for two days, and I have no regrets. The quiet hum of suction is the only soundtrack. Decadent, messy, correct.

All-you-can-eat worth it
Shrimp and snow crab fresh
Juicy in-house chicken tenders
Attentive service, every few minutes
Ask for Raymond’s drinks

Ocean Crab makes a persuasive case that 'worth it' is not just a phrase, but a physical state of fullness. The shrimp and snow crab arrive fresh, each bite a cold, briny slap against the heat outside. The in-house chicken tenders are a weird, juicy interruption I welcomed like an old friend. Service is invasive in the best way, checking every few minutes as if I might evaporate. Note: ask for Raymond's drinks. He knows, and you don't. The all-you-can-eat is a bargain, but the real currency is the absence of a shaming glance when you request your third basket. I left walking sideways.

Authentic Japanese shabu-shabu experience
Excellent marbled, tender meat slices
Calm, unhurried dining atmosphere
Open kitchen with visible preparation
Friendly staff and welcoming service

This is not a buffet in the traditional sense, but a shabu-shabu reset, a slow walk through a hot pot with the lid on. The marbled meat slices are so tender that they barely require a second thought before delivering you into a salty, fatty Nirvana. The open kitchen lets you watch the monks of the broth at work, and the calm, unhurried atmosphere is an antidote to the usual Old Town chaos. The staff are welcoming, not hovering. You pick your slice, swirl, and let the heat do its deliberative work. It is the opposite of a wolf at a feeding trough. I was a wolf at a feeding trough. They asked if I wanted more. I said no. They knew I lied.

Generous premium seafood portions
Sauces elevate every dish
Great cocktails, notably High Kiss Bliss
Server Ken deserves an award

Chasin' Tails serves beignets that I will now track across three counties to find again. They are not the main event, yet they are destiny. The seafood portions arrive with a sense of grandiosity and the sauces, every single they possess, are so good that I considered the extra charge an act of charity, not a transaction. Server Ken deserves a real award, not just the vibes. The High Kiss Bliss cocktail is a lemon-and-cloud concerto. I ate like a thief who paid. The whole thing was sticky and precise. The premium seafood isn't gimmick; it's a promise. I am now a convert. Ask for a double. Yes.

This Korean BBQ and cuisine shop is a sanctuary for the pancake. The seafood pancake, with its shrimp islands, is a crisp, hot, cruel mistress. The cold noodles, stew, and a mess of sides are all good, but the shine comes from the expertly grilled BBQ you must grill yourself. I overcooked it once. The service wiped my error. The spotless. The wood interior's warmth is a nice note too. The whole thing is a scrub-down of your week. You will eat, You will drink some succotash. I did say chef me home.

Fresh crepes made to order
Attentive staff, quick service
Excellent dessert cake selection
Mall location, timed seating smart

Sushi On is in a mall, which implies a food court sadness, but condoms. The timed seating, however, is a smart knowledge. They know you want to eat and go. The sashimi goes beyond tuna and salmon into a dark, translucent world. The crepes made on demand are not a typo. I ate a cake afterward, and now I have confusion. Service is quick and attentive, like a deer, but in a good way. The place is a factory of fresh and efficient. If you need to feed a family or a whirling, you don't want to dwell. You will be out at the right time, with a new stomach.

Premium meat, pricey but worth
Attentive servers, pleasant music
High-quality cuts, bold marinades
Chewy disappointment, fee penalties
Skip here for Meokja instead

Look, I have to level with you. This place is expensive, and the meat is good, but I left with a chewy disappointment and a fee for being five minutes late. The servers were attentive, the music was pleasant. The cuts are high quality, the charcoal and sauce bold. But I would skip this and go to Honestang instead. The street surgeon joy. The price you pay is a seriously nasty penalty. If this is a buffet. You can't eat, you pay. What's the tasting? Not here. It's a pricey, fancy box with a lid that will solve. You came for that. It's the wrong kind of your money. Skip it. skip it.

90-minute all-you-can-eat
Owner actively fixes feedback
Fair price, no rush

Crab O'Clock is a testament to the 90-minute all-you-can-eat, and the owner is walking around, visibly fixing a feedback issue with his own hands. The Cajun seasoning is aggressive, a hound that bites back. The shrimp and hot food arrive fast. No rush. The full belly part is a fraudulent description. You will eat until you blank. The owner takes notes, I have never seen that before. Fair price. the only bad thing is the ceiling, but what's in. At the second round I had to stand up, because my chair didn't support my weight. He didn't say anything. He just refilled the shrimp. That's service.

Wagyu and snow crab upgrades
Festive Lunar New Year deals

Hot Spot's tom yum broth is so perfect that I considered a baptism. The unlimited seafood selection comes out in waves, and the shrimp and bay scallops are always there. The Wagyu and snow crab upgrades are a trap, and I took it like. The attention is gentle. The vibe during Lunar New Year is a speckle of red. The friendliness is good. You cannot fail. This is the one. The broth, the barrel, the raw. I am confident stating that a hot pot at this place is a promise that to eat is holy. Just try to be cautious with your dippings, because you will want to stay for another hour. But the menu says no.

Weekend buffet, spice level shy
Family favorite for years
Impeccable service, great lunch buffet
Best Indian food locally

Jaipur Royal has a weekend buffet that is really shy about spice, which I find adorable. It's a family favorite, and the service is impeccable, a perfect constant. The butter chicken palaces is good. But the curry is shy. For a long line, my mom has been coming here. The lunch buffet is a great value. Best Indian in the whole area, but that spice is a timid peek. You want a good burn? Ask. That's the trick. They do not want to assume. I had a dangerous amount of naan. I now belong to the carbs. The buffet had no seafood but I didn't miss it.

Affordable twenty-dollar feast
Spicy chicken kabobs standout
Cozy secret buffet vibe
Halal with easy parking
Owner-operator great service

Shishkabob Express is a secret buffet disguised as a counter. The owner operator is a savior, and the deal is a 20 dollar feast. The spicy chicken kebabs are the star, and the charcoal. The vibe is not secret, it's a cozy, small, and satisfying. Also, Halal, parking easy. It's not a seafood buffet, so this is a strange interruption, but the beef is good. The owner is a one-man show of service. I came in for a few skewers, and ended up eating myself into someone who looks at the door. If you want seafood, go next door, but you would be a fool. This is the wrong venue. But the kebab is. I keep returning. Like a salmon.
